The Great Majority

Author

Mikhail Gulin

About the book

In this book, the artist Mikhail Gulin tells the story of the largest animals on our planet, those currently living and those already extinct. He doesn't just tell the story, but he also puts them in relation to each other: What is big? Big, heavy, perhaps long? Is an elephant big? Yes, it is big, but it is not the tallest animal on earth. The tallest animal is the giraffe! And yet it is less long than the reticulated python, the longest snake in the world. But the reticulated python, for its part, is lighter than the shorter but heavier anaconda snake. An elephant, a giraffe and a reticulated python would all together be lighter and shorter than the blue whale! However, the longest animal is not the whale at all, but the not particularly handsome worm - Nemertine. So in this book, standardizations/ nominations (im Deutschen Text steht Normierungen. Soll es vielleicht Nominierungen heissen?) are awarded in several categories: Weight, height, size, length! There are champions in different classes, groups and families. Mikhail Gulin collected a lot of fascinating information for the book, which he presents in an entertaining way, complemented by his unique humorous graphics. An art book and an encyclopaedia under one cover!
